Privacy Notice for Listeners

Here is some important information about how we use your contact details.

Under the General Data Protection Regulation 2018 the Southampton Area Talking Echo must let you know how we use and protect your personal data. The legal basis for this is called ‘Legitimate Interest’ and it allows us to use your data in a way that you would reasonably expect us to, but which does not override your interests in any way.

When you asked to receive the recordings produced by the Southampton Area Talking Echo, you, or a relative or friend, provided your name and address and, perhaps your telephone number, so that we could send you our memory sticks. This information is the only personal data we have for you. It is stored in a secure database and the address labels are also stored in a secure location when not in use. Having left our premises, the address labels are then under the care and protection of Royal Mail.

Your contact details are only used for sending you our memory sticks and will never be forwarded to a third party or sold for marketing purposes. If you wish to know at any time what your data with us is, you can contact us on 023 8033 3343 so that we can make suitable arrangements to let you know.

If you ask us to stop sending the memory sticks to you, your contact details will be deleted from our database and any address labels will be destroyed. If we have not heard from you for 3 months after we send you a memory stick, we will write to you to check whether you no longer require the Talking Echo to be sent to you and we will then remove your details from our records.

We can assure you that we take data protection very seriously. We make every effort to ensure your details are kept safe and secure and that we meet the requirements of the General Data Protection Regulation. You are welcome to contact us at any time if you have any concerns about your personal data.

You have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office if at any time you think there is a problem with the way your data is being handled by us.
